چکیده

A mathematical model is developed for fluid and heat flow in two-phase geothermal reservoirs containing noncondensible gas (CO,). Vertical profiles of temperature, pressures and phase saturations in steady-state conditions are obtained by numerically integrating the coupled ordinary differential equations describing conse rm tion of water, CO,, and energy. Solutions including binary diffusion effects in the gas phase are generated for cases with net mass throughflow as well as for balanced liquid-vapor counterflow. Calculated examples illustrate some fundamental characteristics of two-phase heat transmission systems with non-condensible gas.

SPE 90233 Experimental Study of Phase Transformation Effects on Relative Permeabilities in Fractures

Phase transformation affects multiphase flow in geothermal and gas-condensate reservoirs due to the same substance occurring in different phases. These effects change the phase behavior and the flow characteristics. The goals of this research were to compare the flow behavior and relative permeabilities difference between two-phase flow with and without phase transformation effects in smooth-wa...

A Capillary Pressure Model for Geothermal Reservoirs

Abstract Steam-water capillary pressure is often either ignored or determined artificially in geothermal reservoir engineering. However steam-water capillary pressure plays an important role in geothermal reservoir performance and may not be substituted by air-water capillary pressure. To this end, preliminary mathematical models have been developed to calculate drainage and imbibition steam-wa...

The Effects of Non-Condensible Gas on the Critical Pressure Ratio and Critical Flow Rate in a Safety Valve

The effect of non-condensible gas on subcooled water critical flow phenomena in a safety valve is investigated experimentally at various subcoolings and disk lifts. In the experiment, the flow rate of non-condensible gas is controlled between 0 to 2 m/hr about 11 bar after the subcooled water critical condition is established at the throat of a safety valve. The critical pressure ratio with non...

Differences in Estimating Reserves between Geothermal and Petroleum Reservoirs

The existing volumetric approach was honored by considering the effects of oil and gas saturations on the evaluation of geothermal resources in oil and gas reservoirs. The main reason to do so was that oil and gas phases may not be simply substituted by water because the values of the specific heat of oil and gas are smaller than that of water. We selected an oil reservoir, Hexiwu, from Huabei ...

Accounting for the Effect of Tds and Ncg on Salton Sea Reservoir Response

The Salton Sea reservoir, located in Imperial County, Ca., is unique in several ways from most liquiddominated geothermal reservoirs that have been developed to date. One of these differences is the presence of hyper-dine brines containing up to 28% TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) and up to 0.2% NCG (Non-Condensible Gas). A simple material and energy balance model has been developed to study the e...
